Mole Photography
As we all know, New Zealand has a very high level of ultraviolet radiation with a correspondingly high risk of skin cancers.
If diagnosed in time, the outlook for most skin cancers is very favourable.
Potentially worrying signs in moles include:
- Increasing size
- Moles over 6mm diameter
- Smudgy or irregular borders to moles
- Asymmetry (the mole is not symmetrical)
- Various colours within the mole
- Bleeding or ulcerating
- Itching or pain
Our service ensures that your first consultation is with a doctor, allowing a thorough skin examination and immediate assessment of any concerning moles.
We can arrange biopsy (sampling) or removal of any unsightly or concerning moles.
Our surgical services page has more comprehensive details.
For moles that currently have no malignant features, we recommend you take advantage of our mole photography service. This allows us to keep high quality digital images either of a small mole or even whole areas of skin for comparison in the future, allowing enhancement of the clinical examination.
Prices
In addition to our standard consultation fee, we charge $5 per photograph.
Most patients will require 6 or fewer photographs as our very high resolution equipment permits us to photograph very large areas of skin and still examine individual moles 'larger-than-life'.
Please note:
We do not photograph every mole individually. This process is used by some organisations who do not have a doctor available to examine you. The pictures are then examined at a later date, or analysed by computer. Our photographic service is an enhancement to the standard clinical examination of the skin and should not be seen as a replacement for it.
